In Australia, Bigfoot quickly became a cultural icon in the 1970's.

In 1977, Bigfoot was featured in the Australian's Women's Weekly via the superhero comic strip - Mandrake the Magician. Currently, the Trove archives of the Weekly are incomplete - missing several editions. So, if anyone happens to come across any of the missing comic strips in this series please let me know...

Mandrake, along with the Phantom Magician in Mel Graff's The Adventures of Patsy, are regarded by comics historians as the first superheroes of comics. Comics historian Don Markstein writes, "Some people say Mandrake the Magician, who started in 1934, was comics' first superhero."
